Learning Pathways

Welcome to the Fulfilling their Potential Learning Pathways

This section is a 'How To' guide for implementing Fulfilling their Potential (FtP). These pages will guide you along learning pathways, either through the TRF website, or the FtP Improvement Framework. It will identify all the learning resources which are most relevant to developing your services for 11-19 year olds.

It is recommended that you use the learning materials on these pages with the support of a mentor, ideally a nominated colleague in your workplace, with whom you can

  • Discuss issues and activities arising on this journey through the website
  • Record your progress through the learning package
  • Identify personal training needs
  • Develop and follow personal action plans to meet your training and development needs.

By using these learning support materials you will

  • Have an understanding of the reading and information needs of young people
  • Have an understanding of Fulfilling their Potential and the Improvement Framework which underpins it
  • Have an understanding of Youth Matters and the wider government agenda around young people
  • Have an understanding of how to involve young people in shaping library services
  • Know some of the things libraries do to bring reading to young people
  • Know about the importance of your role in bringing reading to young people
  • Know about ways in which you can help and inspire young readers
  • Build skills and confidence in carrying out this role

You can use this 'How To' guide to Fulfilling their Potential in several ways:

Through the Improvement Framework

When you download the FtP Improvement Framework you can work through it online to identify the development needs of your service. Within the Framework are live links to TRF website sections which will take you to the resources and case studies relevant to each FtP development area. Essentially, this option gives you a pathway through the service improvement framework, linking you back to the website resources for extra support when necessary.

Through the FtP Learning Pathway

This option gives you a pathway through the TRF website which identifies all the sections which are most relevant to developing your services for 11-19 year olds. You can work through this pathway in sequence or you can select from the pathway the sections which you particularly want to focus on, such as Helping Young Readers Develop, or Involving and Consulting Young People.

If you would like to document your achievements as you travel through the Fulfilling their Potential learning pathway, download this checklist (Word, 121kb) and mark off areas as you cover them.

Remember to use this information for your appraisal.

When you have worked through each section, use your browser 'back' button to return to this Fulfilling their Potential Learning Pathway.
