Summer Reading Challenge

'I’d say to other parents that sharing a book with your child can be a really special time together. The Summer Reading Challenge™ will help you find books they’ll be interested in. And it’s all free – it doesn’t cost anything to join your local library and take out a book'

Ninety-seven percent of libraries in the UK are involved in the Summer Reading Challenge™ every year.

The TRF website provides you with information, interactive elearning tools and networking facilities to help you run a successful Summer Reading Challenge in your library service.

In 2008 there’s a sporting theme for the Challenge, which is called Team Read.

Have a look too at TRF: The Training Programme.  You could use the Summer Reading Challenge as the focus activity for whole service TRF training, as Barnsley and Doncaster Libraries did, in a development project which produced this TRF programme.

As part of Enjoying Reading, there are now lesson plans and resources for schools, using Team Read to get children sharing reading ideas after the summer. Download these resources for  using the Summer Reading Challenge with Year 7 or with Key Stage 2
