e-Learning

The e-learning centre is your place to develop your skills to encourage and support young people’s reading and to deliver the best quality reader development projects and programmes.

There are several ways you can work through the e-learning section.

You can work through the TRF e-learning packages. These are directed learning pathways through connected areas of TRF website content, designed to meet your training and learning needs. There are currently two learning packages available:

  • Learning Package 1: Practical and Front Line core skills - for front-line staff and for staff wanting to refresh or build new skills in their work with young readers.
  • Manager's Package: Strategic and Planning Skills - a pathway through the TRF website which highlights strategic tools and resources for all managers developing and enhancing library services for young people and their families.

Or, you can work through the different website sections, which address learning and development needs for you or your service. The TRF e-learning centre has the following sections:

  • Strategy and Planning - TRF’s planning and evaluation section will help you think about the project lifecycle – from strategic planning, to project delivery and right through to sustaining your results
  • Advocacy - TRF’s Getting Your Message Across section will help you to construct an advocacy strategy to get your service noticed and the value of your service recognised well beyond the library sector
  • National Policy - TRF’s National Vision section describes the policy drivers for reader development and enables you to set your work against the national policy backdrop
  • Practical Delivery - TRF's Core Skills section offers a set of tools to develop your core skills. This section has been developed in consultation with library practitioners. All staff working in public libraries meet with children and teenagers - and will need most if not all of these skills

TRF e-learning centre is your tool for development - you can use it independently, focussing on very specific areas of learning, or with support from a library mentor, or as part of library authorities' whole service training on work with young people.

Whatever you do, remember to document your work and use it in your appraisal!
