Welcome to your TRF Learning Package

Learning Package 1 is a learning pathway through sections on the TRF website which are particularly useful for newly appointed front-line library staff and for staff wanting to refresh or build new skills in their work with young readers.

It is recommended that you use this package with the support of a mentor, ideally a nominated colleague in your workplace, with whom you can

Discuss issues and activities arising on this journey through the website
Record your progress through the learning package
Identify personal training needs
Develop and follow personal action plans to meet your training and development needs.

By using this learning package you will

Have an understanding of the reading and information needs of young people and their families
Have an understanding of how and why reading matters for young people
Know some of the things libraries do to bring reading to young people and their families
Know about the importance of your role in bringing reading to young people
Know about ways in which you can help and inspire young readers
Build skills and confidence in carrying out this role.
