Impact

This TRF planning framework is based on a set of outcomes which describe the impact our services can make for the people using them – the difference we can make.

The people affected can be the young people to whom we offer the services, their parents, carers and other adults. It can also be the people and organisations providing the services – library staff and library partners.

Have a look at the following list of outcomes. These are all outcomes towards which your service may be working. You will probably have more to add. They are grouped under the headings

  • People
  • Places
  • Planning
  • Partnerships

Step 1 - Select Outcomes

Choose from the list below, and/or from any further outcomes decided on by your library service, and note them in the first column of your Planning table (Word, 37kb) When you have noted the outcome you are working on, move on to Step 2 and think about what evidence of impact it might involve.

For example, you might choose the outcome: 'Young people feel that the library is a key space for them.'

Look at this worked example (this link opens a new window) to see how your planning for this outcome will take shape.

Planning

  • Library planners and leaders understand how integrating reader development with young people fully in their planning will help meet a range of targets in service plans
  • Library senior managers act as advocates for reader development for young people, keeping themselves informed and regularly reviewing success in providing effective reader development opportunities
  • The library's work with young readers is integrated into all relevant planning, including wider regional agendas and national initiatives
  • Library staff and volunteers are competent in the core skills needed to support and stimulate reader development for young people

Partnerships

  • New and significant reading experiences for young people are created by the combined efforts of libraries and partners

Which outcome/s does your service want to achieve? What impact do you want to make?

By using the next 4 sections in this site you will be able to build up a service delivery plan for achieving this outcome.
