Children’s Reading Partners (CRP) is a new partnership between libraries and children’s publishers.
Launched in May 2008 and led by The Reading Agency it aims to take the children’s library/publisher relationship to a new level, building on a new understanding in the book trade of the strategic significance of libraries’ changing work with young readers, and linking in with the work of the original Reading Partners project where libraries joined with adult publishers.
The Publishers’ Association and 12 children’s publishers have signed up to the scheme – in the 2 year pilot are Faber, Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Oxford University Press, Puffin, Random House, Scholastic, Simon and Schuster, Walker Books, together with Bloomsbury, Egmont and Usborne in a one year work package.
Children's Reading Partners will help publishers connect to young readers in new ways by allowing them to link into important developments in libraries.
A regional structure of library representatives will allow libraries and publishers to connect and work together right across the country. The representatives come from the Association of Children's and Education Librarians, working closely with the Youth Libraries Group.
Here on TRF you will be able to find resources from CRP partner publishers to inspire and support your work with young readers. Have a look at the TRF Resources Section: Helping Young Readers Develop
Publishers will also be able to link into libraries' national Chatterbooks children's reading group network and ‘groupthing.org’ - The Reading Agency's new teenage social networking website, to be launched in autumn 2008.
